Minor tooth flaws are no laughing matter if they make you dissatisfied with your smile. That’s where porcelain veneers can come in. At Sonoma Smiles, we use porcelain veneers to address imperfections in your teeth that keep you from showing off your grin.
Improving your smile with veneers can take as little as two weeks. A visit to Dr. Wayne Sutton at Sonoma Smiles in Rohnert Park, California, can determine if you’re a good candidate for veneers.
Veneers aren’t designed to correct major issues with stained, misaligned, or damaged teeth that require extensive treatment. Veneers help correct minor tooth flaws that detract from your smile’s esthetic appeal. This includes:
Veneers are ultra-thin porcelain shells that Dr. Sutton bonds to the surface of your teeth to conceal tooth flaws and improve their appearance. With veneers, your smile can appear whiter, smoother, and unblemished. Veneers can give you a smile you’re happy and comfortable with. If your smile isn’t all that you’d like it to be, you could benefit from porcelain veneers.
Porcelain veneers offer a quick and easy path to beautiful teeth, as the process can often be completed in two or three dental visits. The first stage is a consultation with Dr. Sutton to evaluate the state of your teeth and determine if porcelain veneers are a good fit for you.
Veneer candidates must have healthy teeth, as problems with decay or gum disease can interfere with this treatment. If your teeth are healthy, and we feel you’re a good candidate for veneers, we’ll schedule an appointment to prepare your teeth for treatment.
The second stage is preparing your teeth for treatment. This is done by removing a thin enamel layer to make room for the veneers. We’ll then take impressions of your teeth and send them to a lab where veneers are fabricated. The lab will custom-design your veneers and send them to our office for application. This process may take two weeks.
Stage three of your procedure is bonding the veneers to your teeth. After inspecting the veneers for color and fitting, we’ll clean, polish, and etch your teeth to prepare them for veneer placement. Then, we’ll cement the veneers to your teeth to complete your treatment.
You care for your veneers as you care for your teeth, i.e., daily brushing, flossing, and seeing your dentist regularly for routine cleanings. You should also avoid chewing on ice, eating hard foods, and using your teeth like tools, as these habits can damage your veneers prematurely. When properly cared for, porcelain veneers can last 10 or more years.
