Migraine Symptoms

Migraine headaches have various symptoms that can occur in combinations including:

  • Sensitivity to light, noise, and odors
  • Nausea and vomiting, upset stomach, abdominal pain
  • Loss of appetite
  • Warm and cold sensations
  • Paleness
  • Fatigue
  • Dizziness
  • Blurred vision
  • Diarrhea

Additionally a pounding or throbbing headache often begins as a dull ache and develops into throbbing pain. The pain is usually intensified by physical activity, and can shift from one side of the head to the other, or it can effect the front of the head or feel like it's effecting the whole head. Most migraines last about four hours although more severe headaches can last up to a week. It is not uncommon for a migraine sufferer to get 2-4 headaches per month although some people may get them every few days and others once or twice a year.

Migraines from TMJ

TMJ or temporomandibular joint problems cause many problems, one of the most common being headaches. The TMJ is a complex joint that can subsequently cause migraines because of constant contraction of the muscles in the jaw. This tension creates pressure in the head, face, and neck and reduces the amount of blood that is able to reach the area. The body responds by sending more blood into the area resulting in an increase in blood pressure to the muscles of the head and a headache occurs.

Constant clenching or teeth grinding is a symptom of TMJ which creates a constant contraction of the muscles, which results in pain. Misaligned teeth may be a result of clenched teeth and this can lead to TMD, or temporomandibular disorder. Dr. Sutton can put the TMJ joint back into alignment and place the jaw into its optimal position, thus alleviating most headache problems related to TMJ, muscle, nerve and joint disorder.

Treating Migraines with the NTI-tss Device

Sonoma Smiles utilizes a natural migraine treatment method that is clinically proven and has been reported to relieve symptoms after the first night of use. The NTI-tss device takes advantage of the naturally protective nociceptive trigeminal inhibition reflex which prevents the powerful temporalis muscles from contracting with full intensity. It is the protective reflex experienced when biting down, expecting something soft, but encountering something hard. In addition to preventing occluding of the canine and molar teeth (which is required to generate significant muscle contraction intensity and joint strain) this jaw-opening reflex - triggered by the NTI-tss device - protects incisors, posterior molars, surrounding tissues and the TM joints. It also helps prevent associated headaches, stiff, sore joints and muscles, and tooth sensitivity.

Dr. Sutton can fit the NTI-tss device to your teeth in just one short appointment. The device is designed to protect your teeth from further wear and reduce the severity of teeth grinding or clenching that can occur in sleep. Allowing the TMJ muscles to rest will reduce the severity of grinding and prevent the pains associated to migraines.
